This watercolor is part of the project "100 encounters in watercolor", in which I am based on photographs of my own encounters with animals, among other themes.
In the painting, a young Black Hawk photographed in Itirapina, SP (Brazil).
The young and elegant black hawk called Chico by the locals was painted in life size in this watercolor. I had the chance to meet him in the wild and portray him a few times, since he used to live near a dam.
Curious on why the Black Hawk isn’t black? Well, the species has lighter feathers when young and black when an adult.
