This watercolor is part of the project "100 encounters in watercolor", in which I am based on photographs of my own encounters with animals, among other themes. Based on a photograph of a woodpecker in Itirapina, SP. 
They are very common here, and it is easy to identify when they are approaching by their loud vocalization.
 
The lighting in parts of its body and the looseness in which the spots were portrayed bring expressiveness and transparency to the watercolor.
